Flannel Hexie Border On

Well that border fabric finally arrived on Tuesday and since then I have been adding the borders to my Flannel Hexagon Quilt. Bit of an experiment working out how to add a border to something that is not a regular shape.

It didn't take as long as I thought considering that I stitched it by hand. Did a bit at Fairy Floss Stitches last night while No. 3 Son played a gig with some friends. So nice to have the company of friends while you stitch. (Sorry too busy stitching to take photos). Finished it while watching Tomic beat Gasquet at Wimbledon last night. I just LOVE the holidays!!

Today's job....basting.

It's On Again-The Cassilis Quilters Meeting

It's on again!!

The Cassilis Quilter's are holding their second meeting on Sunday, 21st July. Venue is The Plough Inn Cafe in down town Cassilis.

If you'd like to sit and do this all day....

...stopping only to sip tea or coffee and eat home made cake then join us.

Bring along a hand stitching project and an eagerness to meet like minded quilting type people.

Please leave a comment with Thimblestitch, Fairy Floss Stitches, Country Wishes or me so Linda will know how many cakes to bake.

Hope to see you there.

Hexagon Progress

About a week ago I completed that task of sewing all of my flannel flowers together.

Now I am waiting (very impatiently I might add) for the border fabric to arrive. The closest patchwork store is an hours drive away and they didn't stock the fabric I was looking for. So...I had to go with the online option and wait...and wait.  To my disappointment there was no parcel in my letter box last Friday afternoon. There was no skip in my step as I walked towards my house, empty handed.

To cheer myself up, I continued to work on border four of my violet quilt. This is the project I took to Melbourne last weekend. It helped to fill in time spent in the car and plane. I finished one of the short sides last night and have a pile of diamonds and hexagons ready to go for another side.

It will go here once I attach border three. Border three is a narrow strip of border print fabric.

A Finish For June

Here is the birth sampler I stitched for my niece, to celebrate her Christening last weekend. I collected it from the framers last Wednesday, just in time for the weekend's celebrations.

We flew to Melbourne last weekend for the Christening. I could have sworn my boarding pass indicated that we were flying to Melbourne, but it felt more like Antarctica while we waited for the shuttle bus to take us to the car hire venue.

Here is DS No. 2 waiting at the airport, it really was that cold. Believe it or not, he could see his phone well enough through his beannie to text his friends while waiting for the shuttle bus. And no....the weather did not improve...at all. It was FREEZING!!

Anyway...I have an OPAM finish for June. Have more to show you, but I have to stitch a gift for an expectant mum tonight. Will blog more later in the week.

Friday Night With Friends

Friday was No.2 son's 18th birthday. We are celebrating with a party in a few weeks. With a big day in Sydney planned the next day, we invited grandparents around for a delicious roast dinner cooked by Mr. Stitch. Just a small hint....buy a man a Jamie Oliver cook book (or two), sit back and enjoy....DELICIOUS!!

So very little sewing on Friday night...mainly just getting my things together in preparation for the road trip. I have made a start on the next border of my reproduction EPP 'Legacy from Violet' quilt. So, Saturday I pieced a bit more together while being passenger in the car. You've got to love those portable projects.

I have done this much.

Hope you enjoyed FNWF.

Half Way There

I am half way through joining up my flannel hexagon flowers. I took this photo yesterday afternoon on our carefully manicured lawn the grass in the backyard. I finished that row on the right hand side last night. Only three more rows to go!!

It has been fun using up lots of flannel scraps I have accumulated over the years. It's different to anything I've done before. Combining all of those fabrics as well as paper piecing flannel. For so long now I have been buying from a range of fabrics and know it will all go together.

I keep looking at it thinking 'Yes this is the look I'm after, scrappy like Grandma used to make'. The next time I look at it I think 'I'm not sure this looks quite right but... oh well.... it will be warm.'

Not sure how much stitching will happen tonight, you might have to count this as my Friday Night With Friends post as No. 2 son turns 18 today. Quiet family dinner at home tonight. (His choice). Party is on in a few weeks (long story).

Tomorrow the whole family will be together. We are travelling to Sydney to look at a car for No.2 son. He's been saving madly and is finally ready to make a purchase. Then to watch No. 1 son perform in a concert (he is studying music). Finally, family dinner in the city. I'm quite excited!!
So not a lot of time for posts till Sunday.

Enjoy your weekend...especially if it is a long weekend for you too.

Toes in the Sand Block 2

This week I received block 2 of my Toes In The Sand BOM. I am determined NOT to get behind. I am really enjoying this BOM. These blocks required half hexagons and triangles with the Hex n More ruler. I do have to concentrate a bit on this one, but only had to reverse sew one seam. Went together much better once the household cleared and I was home alone for a while. Ahhhh..... the serenity!!

I am slowly gathering more scraps to add to my small collection. I will use these to create some more 'made fabric' when I get a chance to try my hand at that again.

Now I have just a few photos of my garden to share. I know this is the first day of Winter, but I have been saving these to show you.
Autumn is my favourite time of year. With the cool nights it's much easier to sleep than those hot Summer nights we experienced so long ago. With warm days of Autumn, it's much more pleasant than the freezing nights and frosty mornings of Winter. We planted lots of deciduous trees when we built our house. We have been here 15 years now and can reap the reward of all the hard work planting these so long ago.

I just love the colours.

There Pistacias coloured beautifully on our front footpath.

These Liquid Ambers growing down our driveway are now bare. I took this photos a few weeks ago now.

All of these trees looked even better at sunset, the colours were really vivid then.

I just wish the wind would stay away so the leaves will hang there and colour my garden till Spring.
